Is it safe to say we’ve reached Peak Crossover?
Also I guess this means Ford really is going all in on the whole no car line. They’ll have the EcoSport, Escape, Baby Bronco, Mach I, Edge, Bronco, Explorer, Expedition. Holy shit!
Anyways, looking forward to the internet exploding on November 17.

I’m so sick of this nonsense.

There'd better be a 5.0 option.

I question whether it’s worth damaging the Mustang brand equity to sell an electric car. We shall see.

YES!!

Given we are getting the Ranger, it would make sense for us to get the Everest as well, unless the Bronco is just going to be a rebadged Everest.

I think most would want option C: Nothing
But yeah..you’re not wrong.

One of the last good ‘ol bois it seems. Sad.

I think I saw the Bronco will be loosely Ranger based at least from what the Prototypes have shown.

I resent that it appears to be hinting at a ludicrous fastback roof with the styling without having one.
FASTBACK NOW
NO FASTBACK NO PEACE

ugh being a big ford fan this one hurts.

Looks like an Infiniti

Ah yeah I can see that now too, kind of like the FX

Bitch I’d buy the hell outta a Mustang shooting break—American V8 meets P1800ES proportions for <$50k? Sign me the fuck up

But it’s most likely going to be solely electric or else I’d agree.

I bet in the next 5 years there will be a crossover model named the ‘Peak Crossover’

Eh, it’s the future—I’d still take a BEV with that form-factor and performance at that price, what with how much an electric would make sense for my life right now.

ST brand weeps in the background

I’ll put my money in Mitsubishi, they already got Eclipse Cross.

Hell, I’d take the cheapest option if it came with a manual.
I’ve been complaining about the lack of utility in modern pony cars for some time now.

Agreed; the Mustang especially in its current form has always had this guilty draw for me, but I totally wouldn’t be able to live with its form factor as an only car. As a wagon/break, though...

No.
But not because it’s electric, and not because it’s an alternate body style. It’s because it’s not going to drive like a Mustang.
It’ll work in the short term due to CUV desirability, but it won’t be long before people equate “Mustang” with a pretty bland (in comparison)
family vehicle.
The only one who gets away with this is Jeep, but they have a full brand to play with and a very clear strategy of “The Wrangler is the true Jeep, and everything else is just Jeep Flavored”.

ugh being a big ford fan this one hurts.
This hurts double for me, I was a huge fan of the Mach 1 in all forms. (Well, the Mustang II version was pretty sad though).

Hell, I’d be happy with a hatchback and some rear head room. I keep hoping that Ford will come to their senses and realize what made the Foxbody so popular, it was a hugely useful little car in addition to being fun to drive.

Well, i believe it’s a QX60 now... but I can’t be bothered to verify that. I proposed we call it the “InFordniti EX-Mustang”
EX35:
FX35/FX40 (post-facelift):
I think overall it looks more low-slung like the EX, but the headlights look a lot like the FX37.

You bring up a good point with the Jeep name. It’s somewhat amazing how successful they’ve become. Although I think it’s one thing to take an Rugged SUV brand and dilute it compared to taking a performance name and style and adding it to a CUV. Definitely a very short-term move imo.
On a separate note, I’m curious if this will be another concept, because I would’ve guessed the Bronco debuts first.

I’ll take the yellow one please and thank you

Ugh this just feels like a step towards a whole bunch of Fords sharing the same styling again . More “corporate grille” shit. But we’re supposed to like it because it’s “ Mustang-inspired”. It’s just gonna have the opposite effect- it’ll dilute the Mustang brand, making the pony car less unique among Ford’s lineup. And don’t even get me started on the name...

A concept probably makes more sense, gauge the public’s reaction to the mustang styling on a bigger vehicle, and the interest in a performance EV from Ford. Plus, the Mach name has been used on a concept before, though that was still on a mustang.
I figure the absolute best case scenario is that the mustang becomes the sub brand for performance from Ford and spawns a few fun models, but I don't ee that happening with a EV CUV as the first vehicle.
